Your Character And The New Year

DATE:  Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024

THEME:  NEW YEAR RESOLUTION I

MEMORISE: While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

Psalm 146:2

READ: Psalms 67:4-5

4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

5 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

MESSAGE:

One of my sons while preaching some time said Jacob laboured for 14 years to get the woman he wanted to marry (Genesis 29:18-30) while Isaac simply took a stroll and came back with a

wife (Genesis 24:63-67). One had favour, the other exerted labour. The moment he said that, I made up my mind that l am going to enjoy God's favour in every area of my life. This decision led me to make what you will probably call 'New Year resolutions. These resolutions are deliberate steps I will take towards basking in divine favour for the rest of my life. l am going to share these steps with you over the next six days and I want to encourage you to take them very seriously. Please do not treat them like the typical New Year resolutions that are

often quickly forgotten in the course of the year.

This year, like never before, I am determined to praise and worship God with all my heart and strength. Whenever you eulogise someone from the bottom of your heart, you can get that fellow to volunteer to help you. I will worship and praise God so much that He will volunteer to help me like He did for Paul and Silas in Acts 16: 25-26.

My biological father was so poor that whenever the time came for school fees to be paid, he will pick quarrels with his two wives so that they wouldn't be able to ask for the children's school fees. However, my mother knew how to get my school fees. She would go into my father's room and eulogize him to the extent that he would ask her, "What can I do for you today?" My mother would promptly ask for mý school fees and he would immediately promise to see to it that my school fees are paid.

This year, I am going to praise and worship God more than ever before. Like David who also enjoyed divine favour all through his life, I will bless God at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth (Psalm 34:1).

I will never stop praising His holy name. I will be intentional in praising Him at all times. I will praise Him with everything within me (Psalm 103:1). I will speak of his greatness at all times and He will cover me specially with His favour all through this year and beyond. I will praise my God forever (Psalm 145:1-2). What about you?

ACTION POINT

Spend quality time praising God today and make this a daily practice going forward.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 5-8

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 17: PRAISE MY SOUL THE KING OF HEAVEN

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;

to his feet your tribute bring.

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,

evermore his praises sing.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise the everlasting King!

2 Praise him for his grace and favor

to his people in distress.

Praise him, still the same as ever,

slow to chide, and swift to bless.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Glorious in his faithfulness!

3 Fatherlike he tends and spares us;

well our feeble frame he knows.

In his hand he gently bears us,

rescues us from all our foes.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Widely yet his mercy flows!

TOPIC: YOUR CHARACTER AND THE NEW YEAR

SCRIPTURE: There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. Job 1:1.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: One of the forces that takes people through a new phase, a new season, and through life in general, is the force of character.

It has been confirmed that one of the forces that takes people through a new phase, a new season and through life in general, is the force of character.

Many people are cut short before their time because of the bankruptcy of godly character. And if you must enjoy all that God has for you in this New Year, 2024, you must uphold godly character.

Character is not just powerful, character is power. The real power of a person is the power of character; not financial, muscular, or occult power; it is character power.

The silence of character is louder than the utterance of compromise. When character is silent, it still has a voice. The silence of people of character weighs heavier than the utterances of characterless people.

Job was a man of character. Job 1:1 says,

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job was undoubtedly a man of massive character. In his generation, he commanded both the audience and attention of people on the ground of character.

In Job 29:21-23, Job said,

Everyone listened to me and valued my advice, and were silent until I spoke.

And after I spoke, they spoke no more, for my counsel satisfied them.

They longed for me to speak as those in drought-time long for rain. They waited eagerly with open mouths.

(The Living Bible)

You see, that was a man of character commanding the audience and attention of his generation.

In life, there are people whose voice others long to hear, and there are those whose voice people don’t have the patience to listen to.

For example, no one wants to hear the counsel of an armed robber, a harlot, a drunkard, or a liar.

In this New Year, 2024, make up your mind to work on your character so you can command the attention of your generation.

REMEMBER THIS: One of the forces that take people through a new phase, a new season, and through life in general, is the force of character.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Refuse to go through the year with character deficiency.

2. Ask God for the grace to live right always.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You work on my character in this New Year. I receive the grace to live up to Your expectations for my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: THE POWER OF POSITIVE CHARACTER (PART 3).

QUOTE: Your character determines your future with God, both in this world and in the world to come. Culled from the Book, “21 UNCOMMON KEYS TO FINANCIAL OVERFLOW” by Dr Paul Enenche.

DAILY READING: Genesis 6-10.

AMAZING FACT: When a bee finds a good source of nectar it flies back to the hive and shows its friends where the nectar source is by doing a dance which positions the flower in relation to the sun and hive. This is known as the ‘waggle dance.’

DECLARATION/WORD: Receive the grace to uphold godly character in this season in Jesus Name.
